Lungs, Video and Series of 16 - Photographic Prints, Mono Prints, Photocopies, Engraving, 21 × 29.7 cm, 2016

“Lungs” is a project made up of a series of 16 photographs, photocopies, mono-prints and engravings. The effect of repetition was purposely created to simulate the movement of lungs breathing in and out rapidly. I then created a video using After Effects with the same photographs in order to create a more realistic effect of the lungs expanding and contracting. Lastly I created a separate series of 4, where one can observe a gradual change of light and a disappearance of my image.  The theme depicted is an emotion commonly felt by many; anxiety, anger and  panic…..the feeling of lungs expanding and contracting rapidly. The technique used is called light painting photography. The mark making technique allowed me to show fluidity. I also intensified the feeling of movement by blurring the background. The colours were purposely chosen to further emphasize the emotion being portrayed. This is also a self-portrait, as I am seen fading away in the series as the lungs increase its rapid movement. This further creates the feeling of getting lost in one's emotions. Back to artwork
