Omniscient, Group Installation, 2017

Omniscient was a group project. We were given a box containing a shape (circle), a colour (yellow), an artist (Ansel Adams) and a material (salt). We then compared the similarities from our research to come up with this installation.
We created a circular maze made out of salt that would lead to a golden sphere hanging from the cealing. Above the ball hung a dim spotlight giving off a yellow hue. As people entered this worldly realm they blindly followed this maze laid out in front of them. The atmosphere made one resort to one’s senses.
The viewers entered one by one until everyone formed a circle mimicking a sacred ritual. Surrounding a golden pendulum they started to interact with the ball by swinging it from side to side. As the ball swung, light was manipulated. This was a representation of Ansel Adams’ technique of dodging and burning. This effect is emphasised by the contrast of the glistening white salt. Smoke and essential oils were added to enhance the overall experience. Back to artwork
